By Car
Here are some directions you can follow from some of the most popular transportation terminals. Please keep in mind that directions using sat nav/gps may differ from these based on times of day, traffic patterns, accidents, etc.
From the North (Los Angeles)
Proceed south on I-5 ( Interstate 5 ) to the Front St. exit (Exit #17) . Proceed south on Front St. for 0.3 miles to market street. Turn left onto Market St. and proceed for 3 blocks to 3rd Ave. Turn right onto 3rd Ave. and go 20 meters/60 feet to the hostel, located on the right side of the road.
From the South (Mexico)
Proceed north on I-5 ( Interstate 5 ). Take the 94 East/Martin Luther King freeway /J St. exit (Exit 15A). Merge onto 19th St. and proceed north on 19th St. for 3 blocks to Market St.. Turn left onto Market St. and go 1 mile (16 blocks) to 3rd Ave. Turn left onto 3rd Ave. and go 20 meters/60 feet to the hostel located on the right.
From the East (Southern Arizona & California Desert)
Take I 8 (Interstate 8) west to I-5 ( Interstate 5). Take Interstate 5 south to Front St. exit (Exit #17) . Proceed south on Front St. for 0.3 miles to Market St.. Turn left onto Market St. and proceed for 3 blocks to 3rd Ave. Turn right onto 3rd Ave. and go 20 meters/60 feet to the hostel, located on the right side of the road.
Public Transit
Here are some directions you can follow from some of the most popular transportation terminals.
Airport (Lindberg Field)
By foot: It is about a 1 hour walk to the hostel. Walk southeast along Harbor Drive to Market Street. Turn left onto Market St. and go 7 blocks to 3rd Ave. Turn right onto 3rd Ave. and go about 20 meters/60 feet to the hostel on the right side.
By Bus: Take the #992 bus, which can be boarded at one of the 4 bus stops. One way is $2.25.
Taxi: We are about a 15 minute drive from the airport. The cost will be around $15-20 plus tip.
Car Sharing Services: We are about a 15 minute drive from the airport. The cost will be around $6-10 plus tip.
Shuttle van: Shared van service is available from the airport to downtown. Cost is approx $8-20 plus tip. Time may take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on how long you wait for other passengers and who gets dropped off first.
Bus Terminal
On Foot: We are approx. 20 minute walk from the bus station. From the intersection of Commercial St. and 14th St., walk north (past the large parking lot) for 5 blocks to Island Ave. Turn left onto Island Ave. and go 11 short blocks to 3rd Ave. Turn right onto 3rd Ave. and go about 60 meters/200 feet to the hostel on the right side of the street. Please, be advised that the area around the bus station and up 14th St., is not advised after dark.
By Trolley: Cross the street to the 12th and Imperial Transit Center (the large building where all the buses and trolleys are). Go to the back of the building and board the Green Line trolley heading to Santee (this is the end station for this trolley, so board whatever trolley is there). Exit at the Convention Center stop (2 stops, about 4 minutes). Walk north, along 1st Ave. (away from the tracks) for 1 block to Island Ave. Turn right onto Island Ave. and proceed 1 block to 3rd Ave. Turn left onto 3rd Ave. and go about 60 meters/200 feet to the hostel, on the left side of the street. Takes about 10 minutes once you have boarded. Remember to buy your ticket at the machine located on the platform. You cannot buy tickets on the trolley (cost is $2.50)
By Bus: Cross the street to the 12th and Imperial Transit Center (the large building where all the buses and trolleys are). Board the #11 bus heading to SDSU. Exit the bus at 4th Ave. and Market (5 stops, about 9 minutes). Go 1 block further west along Market to 3rd Ave. Turn left and go about 20 meters/60 feet to the hostel. We are located on the right side of the street. (cost is $2.25)

Santa Fe Depot Train Station
On Foot: Walk south along Kettner Blvd. for 3 blocks to G St. Turn left onto G St. and walk 8 short blocks to 3rd Ave. Turn right onto 3rd and go 1 block to Market St. Continue down 3rd Ave for about 20 meters/60 feet to the hostel located on the right side of the street. Walking time is about 15-20 minute.
By Trolley. Find the Green Line Trolley stop at the train station. Board the trolley that is heading to 12th and Imperial. Board and proceed to the Convention Center stop (2 stops, about 5 minutes). Walk north, along 1st Ave. (away from the tracks) for 1 block to Island Ave. Turn right onto Island Ave. and proceed 1 block to 3rd Ave. Turn left onto 3rd Ave. and go about 60 meters/200 feet to the hostel on the right side of the street. From the Mexican border crossing at San Ysidro
Crossing by foot: Exit the American customs shed and locate the trolley stop located 10 meters/30 feet ahead of you on the right. Board any Trolley, as this is the end station for the Blue Line trolley heading to American Plaza. Board the trolley and proceed to the Park and Market trolley stop (13 stops, about 35 minutes). Exit the trolley, cross the track, and proceed down Market street for 9 blocks to 3rd Avenue (10 minutes) Turn left onto 3rd and go 20 meters/60 feet to the hostel located on the right. Remember to buy your ticket at the machine located on the platform. You cannot buy tickets on the trolley.
